Nov 13

AM

The puppies each got some ground beef and organ mix before Zinnia (now Zoe) left for her new home.

Adults got 4 oz each of beef mix also.

MID

Each dog got a dried chicken filet to snack on.

PM

Adults- 3 oz beef mix

Cadi- 2 oz beef mix, and would not eat another bite!  If the puppy is healthy and just doesn't seem hungry enough to finish a meal, I trust that she is just not that hungry right now.  As long as it doesn't happen with every meal, we're ok.

Nov 11

AM

Topaz had 3 oz of beef tripe and 2 tbsp green beans (frozen, thawed.)

The girls and pups got a mini chicken carcass each.

MID

The pups got a dried chicken breast chewy

PM

Topaz left for his weekend at Pikkinokka so I am only feeding Splash, Bhindi, Rhys and Zinnia/Cadi.

Each got a mini chicken carcass as I was running out the door to work and it was the easiest thing to grab.

Don't feel bad if breakfast and dinner are the same sometimes- it's still food and variety is measured over 2 weeks, not 24 hours.

Nov 10

AM

4 oz tripe for each puppy and adult

MID

Pups each got a dried chicken filet and later a chicken back

PM

Adults each got a very small chicken carcass (about 6 oz.)

Pups each got 3 oz. ground beef mix with greek yogurt

Nov 9

Been kind of distracted with travel and hotel staying, so wasn't on top of the updates.  But it gave me the idea to write a future Tip of the Day about hotel stays with your raw dog.

AM

Puppies each got a chunk of pork with bone (about 4-5 oz.)

MID

Fed all the adults 1/4 cup frozen green beans and 3-4 oz of raw ground beef tripe.

The puppies each got 3-4 oz raw ground beef tripe.

SNACK

Each dog got a dried chicken filet

PM

Puppies will get 2-3 oz. ground beef/bone/organ mix.

Nov 4

AM

Puppies got ground chicken with greek yogurt

Splash, Rhys and Bhindi got turkey necks, Topaz got a deer bone.

PM

Puppies got Fish Mash with cooked yam.  Fish mash is canned tuna, canned sardines and crab flavoured pollock (cooked) all layered into their dish.  It was polished off!

Adults each got a chunk of yam and 2 sardines.

THAWING: ground beef/bone/organ mix, pork ribs and chicken backs.

Nov 3

AM

Pups- 2 cans of sardines, something they have only had once before- they LOVED it.  Sardines are good for the skin and coat, digestion and joint lubrication because dark fish contains essential fatty acids.  Processed canned sardines usually have added salt so my dogs only get them once in awhile.

Adults- no brekkie.  Mean mommy is not happy with how fat all the adults are right now!

PM

Pups- huge honking deer bones to share.  Lots of grabbing and dragging around trying to get the massive bones to themselves, but then takeovers and stealing so all pups seemed to get their fair share.

Adults- 1 medium sized deer bone each

Nov 1

AM

The pups got a bucket of deer meat (no bones) and a turkey neck, which everyone claimed for awhile and they passed around.

Turkey necks for Rhys, Bhindi and Splash.  Section of deer rib for Topaz.

PM

All are getting deer meat and bones for the evening meal.

Oct 31

AM

Adults- Topaz got some sliced beef with cottage cheese

Rhys got 2 turkey necks, Splash and Bhindi each got 1

Puppies- each pup got 1/2 turkey neck (quite a hit!)

PM

Each dog got an appropriately sized deer bone, (freshly cut from our friend's hubby's hunting trip)

Another huge hit with the puppies!

Oct 30

AM-

Puppies- ground chicken and the rest of the goat

Adults- zilch.  They are all fat so we are on a diet.

PM

Puppies- ground chicken with cottage cheese

Adults-

Topaz- beef bone

Rhys, Bhindi and Splash got ground chicken with cottage cheese

THAWING: turkey necks

Oct 29

AM

Chicken backs for all

I gave the rest of the goat to Topaz and the puppies and the puppies LOVED it.  Go figure.

PM

Adults- beef bones

Puppies- slices of raw beef and puree of romaine lettuce, blueberries and apple

Oct 28

The goat was kind of... meh.  Splash (I'll-eat-anything-not-nailed-down) had 2 pieces and so did Topaz after he inspected it thoroughly.  Rhys was underwhelmed but finished a piece.  Bhindi was basically offended and kept taking pieces and putting them on the floor in case the next one might taste better.  I snuck a couple of pieces in with the puppies meal but was not sure if they ate them or if it was Rhys who goes in to scrounge their dish and give them a minute or 2 of nursing.

AM-

Puppies got chicken backs and goat pieces

Adults skipped their morning meal again.  Some of them are getting sort of fat since it's getting darker and our runs aren't always very long.  Time to cut back...

PM-

Puppies got pork organs and ELK TRIPE!

Adults got a chicken drumstick and elk tripe.

Oct 27

AM

no meal- long road trip and did not want a lot of poop or any puking

MID-Day

The puppies got a beef rib bone each, the adults got a small dried pepperoni stick from Bone Appetit in Kelowna.  Later they got some of my fries and ice cream, so don't feel too badly for them.

PM

Pups each got a chicken back around 11:30pm once we were back at home and they waited while I cleaned their pen since we were on a tight schedule to leave this morning and it was still dirty.

Adults- Rhys 3 raw chicken drumsticks, Bhindi- 2 drumsticks, Splash- 1 and a small beef rib.  Topaz got a large beef bone with tons of marrow.  MMmmmmmmm

Thawing: GOAT chunks

I am thrilled to have found goat at Walmart. Yes, you read that correctly. I was in the Super WalMart in kelowna, BC looking for the $10 bag of pork bones I have gotten there in the past and instead, they had goat (stewing meat with bone, cut into inch-size cubes) and veal. The veal was pricey, but the goat was $12/...kg or $5/lb. Not cheap but not terrible. So I have it thawing now to feed tomorrow. I don't think any of my dogs have ever had goat!

Oct 26

AM

Puppies got ground chicken with greek yogurt

Adults got pork button bones, which they have no problem crunching through and digesting as the puppies did.

Mid-afternoon snack for the puppies- cut up apple and honeydew melon pieces- they loved it!

PM

Puppies got ground chicken with 4 raw eggs, carrot juice, and thawed green beans

The girl adults got ground chicken, a raw egg and carrot juice.

Topaz got pork button bones, carrot juice and a raw egg.

THAWING: elk tripe, beef rib bones, chicken backs, pork organs

Oct 25

AM

Pups- 2.5 lbs ground rabbit 8P~

They inhaled it, even scrapping over the last bite.  So I gave them another 2.5 lbs and they seemed somewhat satisfied after that.

Adults- some of them pulled down a bag of chicken backs that was thawing while I was out at an appointment.  They got what they stole, and whoever wasn't involved went without.  (Topaz has never stolen food, while the girls seem to make it a pass-time.)

PM

Pups got 8 chicken backs cut into pieces, thanks to sisters, grandmothers and mothers stealing some of their food this morning.

Adults got beef tripe with ground chicken

Oct 24

AM

Adults- 1 chicken back, 3 oz raw beef tripe

Pups- 9 chicken backs, 1 each

PM

Adults- beef tripe

Pups- pork button bones, a big regret :(  The bones were regurgitated and re-chewed all night long.  GROSS.

Oct 23

AM

Adults- ground duck and cooked yam with skins

Pups- ground chicken, cooked yam without skin, thawed green beans

SNACK- I haven't been writing about this, but the pups have been getting a slice each of dried chicken breast made by Chewmasters, found at WalMart, Costco, pet stores, etc. every day or so.  It's a good pass-time as it takes them about 10-15 minutes to work on.

PM

Adults- 3/4 cup Orijen Wild Boar dry food with 1 tbsp cottage cheese on top

Pups- 2 lbs raw beef tripe

THAWING- chicken backs, ground rabbit with vegetables, pork button bones

Oct 22

Due to the quantities I have to buy things in, and the variety of portions I am feeding I often end up with bits and pieces of different things to feed the dogs a couple of times a week.

AM

Splash- ground duck

Bhindi- elk tripe, pork bone

Rhys- elk tripe, ground duck, 2 turkey necks

Topaz- elk tripe

Puppies- raw beef tripe!  Our favorite!!

PM

Splash & Bhindi- 2 chicken backs

Rhys- 4 chicken backs

Topaz- I don't want to overdo chicken and keep it to just once a week with him, so he got some beef tripe and was quite happy with that.  I always use tongs or latex gloves when serving raw tripe.  It reeks like cow patties and you need to scrub for quite awhile to get the smell off your hands.

Oct 21

Pups

AM

ground duck with some ground chicken

PM

beef tripe

Adults

AM

racks of pork ribs 4-6, depending on the dog

PM

chicken carcas, small for Bhindi and Splash, larger ones for Topaz and Rhys.  This is fast becoming a favorite, with Topaz even mumbling a low growl because Bhindi was eating to closely to him and he wanted to make sure she didn't think she could come and have any of his!

THAWING-

green beans, beef tripe, chicken backs

Oct 20

AM

Adults got elk tripe and pork entrails

Pups got ground chicken topped with 2 cans of sardines

PM

Adults each got a beef bone and a pet sorbet

Pups got ground chicken topped with raw eggs and 9 tsp of cottage cheese.

This gave them the energy to terrorize their freshly changed pen, mostly shredding the newspapers and now noisily beating each other up.

Oct 19

AM

Topaz- 8 oz elk tripe, 1 oz pork entrails

Splash & Bhindi- 1 turkey neck, 1 oz pork entrails, 1 oz elk tripe

Rhys- 2 turkey necks, 2 oz pork entrails, 2 oz elk tripe

Puppies- 2 lbs ground chicken with 8 oz pork entrails

PM

Puppies- 1 photo cable cord, 2 newspapers, 1 stuffed toy... etc.  (kidding, not really- the pups are chewing everything they can get their mouths around.)

They had ground chicken with cooked and cooled yams.

Adults had elk tripe, pork entrails and Rhys had 2 turkey necks as well.
